Used Books+ Fill a Bag for a Buck

New books added this week for the kids: Big Words for Little Paleontologists by Lisa M. Gerry, Judy Moody and the Bad Luck Charm by Megan McDonald, Baby-Sitters Little Sister Karen’s Roller Skates, Karen’s Witch & Karen’s Surprise based on the books by Ann M. Martin, a fresh copy of Because of Winn Dixie by Kate Dicamillo (Ours was well read and falling apart.), Hello, Moon by Julie Downing, It’s Fall by Renee Kurilla, and several new Sonic the Hedgehog graphic novels.  Non-Fiction titles for the grownups: Not That Fancy by Reba McEntire, The Swedish Art of Aging Exuberantly by Margareta Magnusson, and Yellowstone, The Official Dutton Ranch Family Cookbook. Come and check them out.

Join us this week, Thursday night, October 26th at 6pm to paint on canvas, The Art Sherpa’s “Autumn Pumpkin”. We ask that you pre-register by calling the library at 715-274-8331. I encourage participants to dress up for fun! Come celebrate National Pumpkin Day by painting a picture of a pumpkin at the library.

The Friends of the Library will be at Gilman Park Friday, October 27th from 4-6pm for the Mellen Chamber of Commerce and the Mellen City Parks and Recreation Committee’s Halloween Gathering. The Friends of the Library will be on hand to pass out candy and a craft project. While you’re there visit our Little Free Library.

We are adding items to our Friends of the Library Book Sale. Items include books on audio CD, DVDs, as well as print books both fiction and non-fiction for all ages. It’s ‘Fill a bag for $1’. The funds collected go to the Friends of the Library.

Join the Friends of the Library from now until Thursday, November 2nd and be entered to win a cozy blanket made by Sally Sarnstrom and donated in memory of her mother, Joan Schultz. The blanket was originally donated for our Fall Quilt Raffle but is being repurposed to draw new members to our organization. The drawing will take place at our meeting on November 2nd at 6pm. Lifelong members and any person renewing membership or becoming a new member will be entered in the drawing. We invite our Friends to bring a friend to November’s meeting to learn more about the Library and the Friends of the Library. The Friends’ projects in the year ahead include new flooring for the library, a door with a window for The Friends Place outdoor patio, a rail for The Friends Place and offering program opportunities. If you’re interested in becoming a Friend of the Library, you may pick up a membership form at the library or request one be emailed to you.  A form is also available from our website, https://www.legionmemoriallibrary.org/  you may print and mail in.

The October Take & Make project is a little bat. Enjoy a craft and read a book with the children in your life.

The Library Board of Trustees will meet on Monday, October 30th at 5:30pm at the Library.  Please note the change from Tuesday to Monday this month.
