For Kids
1000 Books Before Kindergarten
Why 1000 Books before Kindergarten?
- Parents who read with their children daily are creating warm, loving, happy memories that their children will remember forever!
- Children whose parents read aloud to them regularly have longer attention spans than children from non-reading households.
- Children who are read to often have larger vocabularies and an increased capacity for learning.

Storytime Program
Storytime is a program geared for 3 year olds to attend with an adult caregiver. There are three 8 week sessions during the school year. Beginning in September and ending in May. You may register your child by calling the library at 715-274-8331 or by emailing [email protected]. Updates are also available on the Legion Memorial Library Facebook page.

Mellen Public School
The Library supports Mellen Public School, home of the Mellen Granite Diggers. A number of grade school students visit the public library with their teacher once a month during the school year. While at the library children listen to a story, sometimes a joke or two and maybe even join in saying a tongue twister. A quick craft project is made with time left for browsing the shelves for a book to take home until their next visit.

Summer Reading Program
Summer 2021 - Tails & Tales
This year a Reading Bingo challenge was declared. Five books in a column, row, or diagonally earned you an entry into a drawing for $50 sponsored by the Friends of the Library. Those who wrote book recommendation also earned an entry.
