Summer Reading at the Library

Reading Medal

Reading Medal

The Summer Reading theme is Color Our World. Register today.  All ages welcome.  Earn a patch for every 25 reading points and earn a Reading Medal with 50 points.  Recording of reading points is underway and will be open until August 30th. Help our young people to build their vocabulary, comprehension and literacy skills by reading aloud or encouraging them to read on their own for 15 minutes a day.  A brochure with Summer Reading information is available from the library.  You may also check our website’s event calendar for dates and times of programs.

Six weeks of programs will be offered for children in grades 1-5 on Tuesdays beginning June 17th- July 22nd at 10:30am.  Six weeks of programs will be offered for children ages 3-5 on Thursdays beginning June 19th-July 24th at 9am.  In addition, movies, Take & Make projects, Lego Days, and events like the Annual Frog Jump will also be offered. All are listed in the Summer Reading brochure and on our Library’s website’s Event Calendar.  There are also sign-up sheets at the library to help us gather numbers, so adequate supplies are ready for the programs.

New this year, a drawing for a $34 Gift Certificate to Ashland Bay Cinema.  All ages are eligible to enter once they have completed a sheet or bookmark of activities.  Activities are different for each age group.  Some of the activities are visiting the library, using a browsing stick, draw a picture, read a non-fiction book, share a nursery rhyme, read 15 minutes a day, and write a book blurb-a sentence or two that shares your thoughts about a book you’ve read.  You may enter once a week, Monday-Saturday, during the six weeks of programming. The drawing will take place Mondays at Noon, and the winner announced.  All entries will then be disposed of to start the week fresh for drawing on the following Monday.  $34 covers the cost of two children/senior tickets and two adult tickets during regular evening performances.

Asahi Nordic Exercise will meet on Wednesday mornings at 8:30am outside in The Friends Place.  If the weather or bugs are an issue, we’ll move indoors.  Asahi exercise focuses on balance, strength, and breathing. Stop by Wednesday morning and see if this is a good fit for your exercise routine.
