Summer Reading 06/02/2020

Hello!  Summer Reading is upon us.  All ages are welcome to participate in our Annual Summer Reading Challenge.  As in the past, each child going into 5th grade and under who earns 60 reading points will be awarded a reading medal.  Yes, I added 10 points, but I also added an extra month to read and record points. Points are earned by reading books.  Please note that I encourage readers to read to younger children who cannot ‘read’ yet, but love to listen to stories being read.  Points count for both the reader and the listener.
5 points for all children’s non-fiction books, 5 points for intermediate and juvenile fiction books – “Chapter Books”, 1 point each for all children’s picture books and early/easy reader books.  Young Adult/YA books and both adult fiction and non-fiction titles are worth 10 points.  Points may be recorded from books read from June 1st – August 31st.  You may borrow library books through our curbside pickup service (at least for now), or read books from home, or online.  Use your library card to access OverDrive ebooks and audio books.
We will have three age brackets, 5th Grade & under, 6th-12th Grades, and adults.  All who earn 60 points will be entered in a drawing for prizes. Each time you earn 60 reading points your name will be entered.  You may jot down your titles and points on a piece of paper & place in the book drop for me, don’t forget your name(s) & grade(s).  Or you may email  – [email protected].  Or you may call – 715-274-8331.
Additional opportunities to earn a ticket will be shared here, on our Facebook page, Legion Memorial Library and on our website, www.legionmemoriallibrary.org.  For June Dairy Month, earn a ticket by coloring or drawing a picture of a cow or tractor.  One entry per person.  Leave it in the Book Drop or email me a copy.  I’ll post in the library windows.
Our Curbside Pickup service is here to stay through the Summer with expanded hours, Monday-Friday by appointment.  Anyone wishing to borrow books may do so using their library card and accessing the Merlin Online Catalog through our library’s website at www.legionmemoriallibrary.org.  Be sure to only choose books that are owned by Mellen.  I’ll update you all as soon as Inter-Library Loans become available once again.  Not online?  No problem give us a call at 715-274-8331.  Leave your name and number, as well as the type of books you’re looking for or an author and title you’re interested in.  Please use the answering machine.
We are working towards offering indoor library service. Thank you for your patience.  If anyone would like to donate masks for when we do, we’d appreciate them.
Peace & Health to all.
