September 25 – Friends Quilt Raffle is Saturday

The Annual Friends of the Library’s Fall Bazaar & Quilt Raffle will be held this Saturday, September 28th, 9 AM to Noon.  It will include a Bake Sale and Used Book Sale. The grand prize quilt, “Stacks” was made by Judy Gibson and donated to the Mellen Friends by Elizabeth Webster.  Donations continue to arrive for the raffle.  In addition to the prizes listed previous weeks, we’ve added a pancake/kitchen basket donated by Jeanne Houle, harvest hand soap & three hand towels donated by Bunny Sederholm, an oil change-$40 value donated by Ultimate Auto, Fall colored knitted afghan donated by Pam Wolfe, Finnish Fingers foot care treatment donated by Finnish Fingers, and Finnish Fingers 1/2 hour massage donated by Regina Soine. Thank you all for your generosity!   There are at least 40 prizes to be drawn for.  Tickets are $1 each and are available at the library.  Thank you so much for your support of the Friends of the Library.

Library School Storytime will begin on Thursday, October 3rd at 9 AM at the library and run for eight weeks.  This is a special time set aside before the library opens for children to attend with an adult caregiver.  The program is planned for 3-year-olds, but younger and older children are welcome to attend too.  We will read a book together, learn a rhyme, sing, and have time to play and checkout books.  If you’d like to attend, contact the library for more information at 715-274-8331.  Book marks with the schedule and list of book titles are available at the library.

If you are unable to attend Library School Storytime consider participating in the 1000 Books Before Kindergarten Program.  Why?

  • Because parents who read with their children daily are creating warm, loving happy memories that their children will remember forever!
  • Children whose parents read aloud to them regularly have longer attention spans than children from non-reading households.
  • Children who are read to often have larger vocabularies and an increased capacity for learning.

Find out more about this program by visiting the library.

Thursday, October 3rd at 7 PM, Conversation & Crafts will meet.  You are welcome to join us and bring whatever handcraft project you’re working on and enjoy the company of fellow crafters.
