September 11 – Gain Access with Your Library Card
September is Library Card Sign-Up Month. If you don’t have a library card, stop by to get one. You’ll need proof of identification with your current address. You may then enter a special drawing for New Card Holders. If you already have a card, each time you visit the library and present your card for check-out, you may enter a drawing.
With your library card you may access Gale Courses for free. There are a variety of courses to choose from under the following headings: Healthcare & Medical, Teaching & Education, and Accounting & Finance, Business, Computer Applications, Design & Composition, Language & Arts, Law & Legal, Personal Development, Technology, and Writing & Publishing. The Friends of the Library’s Quilt for their Fall Raffle is now on display at the Library. The quilt, “Stacks” was made by Judy Gibson and donated to the Mellen Friends by Elizabeth Webster. Other donations have already been brought in for the raffle which will be held on Saturday, September 28th, 9 AM-Noon. The drawing for the quilt and other prizes will begin at Noon. In addition to the “Stacks” quilt and prizes listed previous weeks, we’ve added a bird friend basket donated by Rich & Carol Becker, a set of pen & ink paintings made & donated by Liz Smith, green & red table runner with gold swirls and a green & red table runner made & donated by Georgene Ericksen, a squirrel feeder made by Braylee Swanson & Brenna Nortunen and donated by Rich Becker, large crocheted doily made & donated by LaVerne Friske, grey knitted socks & blue striped socks made & donated by Ken Kritz, ivory & teal knitted hat & brown & grey knitted hat made and donated by Rich & Carol Becker. All prizes are displayed at the library. Tickets are $1 each.
Library School Storytime is a program offered at the library for 3-year-olds to attend with an adult caregiver. Older and/or younger children are welcome to attend, but the story and activities are planned for 3s. If you’re interested in Library School Storytime, contact the library (715-274-8331). If there is enough interest, it will begin in October.
Conversation & Crafts will meet the first Thursday of the month at 7 PM. Our next meeting will be October 3rd. You are welcome to bring whatever handcraft project you are working on and enjoy the company of fellow crafters.
