Santa Claus Is Coming to Town!

Santa will be here at the Library on December 10th from 1-3 pm with Mrs. Claus.  Thanks to the Mellen Lions Club for inviting the couple back again this year. Kids visiting Santa that day will receive a book and may also be entered in a drawing for a bike. You are welcome to bring your camera.
Are you interested in giving origami a try?  The library has several books in which you may learn the art of paper folding.  “Easy Origami for Kids” by Naoko Ishibashi, “Spread Your Wings and Fly” by Mary Chloe Schoolcraft Saunders, “Trash Origami” by Michael G. LaFosse, “Origami, Japanese Paper Folding” by Satrou Tanase, and “Origami” by Hideaki Sakata.   A recommendation was made that we decorate our tree this season with origami ornaments.  If you’d like to donate a handmade origami ornament or two to the library, we would be happy to include it on our tree.

Kids Cozy Corner Notes: New and Improved Reading Patch Program starts in December.  Kids in Kindergarten and all ages above are invited to earn patches by reading books.  Pick up a Reading Patch Tracking Sheet to fill in at home.  Color in a book for each reading point earned using the same system as for Summer Reading:  1 point for Children’s Fiction books, 1 point for magazines, 5 points for Intermediate, Juvenile Fiction and Non-Fiction Books, 10 points for all (Fiction & Non-Fiction) Young Adult & Adult Books.  Once filled, return it to the library for a patch of your choice.  We have some canvas bags left to pass out to those wishing to participate.  You may add patches to the bag, or you may want to decorate a backpack, hat, or jacket instead.  You decide.  Share your ideas with us.  We’d love to share pictures of your Reading Patch collections on our Facebook page.

Stop by and see the artwork of Mellen School students in our entry area.  Thanks to Mrs. Trisa Kleczka and her students for sharing their work with us.

Hope to see you soon at the Library!  *Remember our updated hours:  Monday-Thursday, 9 am-5 pm and Friday & Saturday, 9 am-Noon.
