One Day Outdoor Art Display

Cupcake Art for March 12, 2025 Legion Memorial Library’s 98th Birthday by Mrs. Trisa Kleczka’s Art Students

Mellen School students are busy making 98 pieces of cupcake art to celebrate.  Swing by the library and check out this outdoor art display made under the direction of Mellen Art Teacher, Trisa Kleczka and her Pre-K through 5th Grade students.  At this time we can only guarantee the cupcake art to be on display on March 12rh.  So be sure to check it out then.

Next week Legion Memorial Library will celebrate their 98th Birthday!  The library opened on Saturday, March 12, 1927, from 7 to 9pm in the Mellen City Hall’s American Legion meeting space.  There were about 400 books ready for check out with 30-40 of them being borrowed that first night. This information is from the Mellen Weekly Record.  It was expanded upon in the Mellen Journal by Joe Barabe for Legion Memorial Library’s 70th Birthday.  Barabe’s article is shared on our library’s website, legionmemoriallibrar.org.  It can be found under the “ABOUT” tab then click, “HISTORY”.  Stop by the library on Wednesday, March 12th to share your library memories and enjoy refreshments.  If you have ideas about how our library should celebrate our 100th Birthday, please share them.  It’s time to start planning.

All our regular Wednesday activities will also take place.  Jay Seppanen will be here to answer your computer, tablet, and phone questions from 10am-1pm.  Asahi Nordic exercise will take place at 4pm.

We have many chapter books for kids and young adult books on our book sale cart.  Stop by and fill a bag for $1.

Sponsorship request letters have been sent out for the 2025 Friends of the Library’s Bellringer Run.  If you would like to be a sponsor of the race the cost is $100.  Your business or family name will appear on the back of the 2025 Bellringer t-shirt.  Thank you for your consideration and support of the Friends of the Library.

Monday Night Book Club will meet on the 10th at 6pm to discuss February’s title “Lady Clementine” by Marie Benedict and the March selection “Searching for Sylvie Lee” by Jean Kwok.
The Friends of the Library will meet on Thursday, March 6th at 5pm.  We welcome new members!
