March 6 – 92 Years of Service

The month of March is pretty special to us here at Legion Memorial Library.  On Saturday, March 12, 1927 from 7-9 PM the community was invited to stop by the Legion quarters at Mellen City Hall and borrow books from the Library.  There were 300-400 books to choose from.  On Monday, March 22, 2010 the doors to our new library space shared with the Senior Center opened.  Our 2018 Annual Report numbers brings our total items for check out to 17, 078.  This includes:  books, books on audio, playaways, magazines, DVDs and large print books, as well as the raffle ticket drum.  In addition via Wisconsin’s Digital Library an additional 153,507 electronic book/ebooks are available.
Join us on Saturday, March 16th 9 AM to noon to celebrate the Library’s years of service.  Cake and coffee will be served with a “Cookie Walk” type game taking place at 10:30 AM.
The Friends of the Library will be meeting on Thursday, March 7th at 5 PM.  Planning has begun for the 2019 Bellringer Run.  The t-shirt design contest rules will soon be announced.  Join us to learn more.
The 3rd session of Library School Storytime will begin this Thursday morning, Mach 7th at 9 AM.  Storytime is planned with 3 year olds in mind, but children of all ages are welcome to participate as they are able.  It is a program for a child to attend with their adult caregiver.  We read a book, sing, say rhymes, and make a craft to take home.  It’s a nice time to get together and meet other children and their parents or grandparents.  Please note:  If Mellen School closes due to weather related issues, Library School Storytime is cancelled.
“Conscientious Eating:  Mental Health, Inflammation and the Aging Brain” by Lisa Goehler, Ph.D., an audio presentation is being offered at the Library.  The Highbridge Community Homemakers will be our hosts.  The program continues with a double session on Monday March 11th at 12:30 PM and will conclude on March 18th.  Presentations are about an hour in length.  Everyone is welcome to join us.
Book Clubs will meet next week.  You are welcome to join us Monday, March 11th at 6 PM to discuss, Radium Girls, The Dark Story of America’s Shining Women by Kate Moore; or Wednesday, March 13th at noon to discuss, Prairie Fires, The American Dreams of Laura Ingalls Wilder by Caroline Fraser.
Hope to see you soon at the Library.
