Large Print Collection

The library has a nice large print collection. We have found that more and more people prefer this larger type. Come try it out for yourself. Recently we’ve added the following titles in large print: 12 Months to Live and 23 ½ Lies both by James Patterson, After That Night by Karin Slaughter, The All-American by Susie Finkbeiner, The Best Summer of Our Lives by Rachel Hauck, Breaking New Ground by Amy Clipston, Bright Lights, Big Christmas by Mary Kay Andrews, Crow Mary by Kathleen Grissom, Dirty Thirty by Janet Evanovich, The Exchange by John Grisham, Judgement Prey by John Sandford, The Last Devil to Die by Richard Osman, The Last Ranger by Peter Heller, The Laws of Attraction by Mary Connealy, Letters of Comfort by Wanda E. Brunstetter, None of This Is True by Lisa Jewell, Pink Lemonade Cake Murder by Joanne Fluke, The River We Remember by William Kent Krueger, The Running Grave by Robert Galbraith, Second Act by Danielle Steel, and The Secret by Lee Child.

We are adding items to our Friends of the Library Book Sale from our Fall shelf weeding project.  Items include books on audio CD, DVDs, as well as print books both fiction and non-fiction.  Come check it out.  It’s ‘Fill a bag for $1’. The funds collected go to the Friends of the Library.

Join the Friends of the Library from now until Thursday, November 2nd and be entered to win a cozy warm blue polar fleece blanket made by Sally Sarnstrom and donated in memory of her mother, Joan Schultz. The blanket was originally donated for our Fall Quilt Raffle but is being repurposed to draw new members to our organization. The drawing will take place at our meeting on November 2nd at 6pm. Lifelong members and any person renewing membership or becoming a new member will be entered in the drawing. We invite our Friends to bring a friend to November’s meeting to learn more about the Library and the Friends of the Library. The Friends’ projects in the year ahead include new flooring for the library, a door with a window for The Friends Place outdoor patio, a rail for The Friends Place and offering program opportunities. Volunteers would be welcome to host programs which would include serving refreshments and helping with set up and clean up.  If you’re interested in becoming a Friend of the Library, you may pick up a membership form at the library or request one be emailed to you.  A form is also available from our website, https://www.legionmemoriallibrary.org/  you may print and mail in.

The Acrylic Painting group will meet Thursday, October 26th at 6pm to paint along with The Art Sherpa and create her “Autumn Pumpkin”. Register in advance to hold your place as our space is limited and almost full. I’m encouraging participants to dress up for fun, with a recommendation to give a complimentary nod to The Art Sherpa’s style. Come celebrate National Pumpkin Day by painting a pumpkin.

Our Friends will be at the Mellen Chamber of Commerce and the Mellen City Parks and Recreation Committee is hosting a Halloween get together on Friday, October 27th 4-6pm at Gilman Park. The Friends of the Library will be on hand to share candy and a fun craft project.

The October Take & Make project is a little bat. Enjoy a craft and read a book with the children in your life.

Hope to see you soon!
