June 5 – Thank You! Northern Aged Iron, Inc!

Thank you to Northern Aged Iron, Inc. for the Antique Tractor Show & Parade! “Thank You!” to Anita & Ralph Kleinsteiber, Glen Scribner, Linda Doty, Gordy Wrege, Jerry & Rosemary Anderson, Eleanor & Dave Johnson, and Terry Van Buren. 100+ students enjoyed the machines – a few John Deeres, a Ford, a Ferguson, and the special Allis-Chalmers called, The Cats Meow. Lunch was courtesy of the club and their friends. Kendra & Skyler Thewis of Valley View Farm were here with an Ayrshire calf, named Skystarr. Gogurt was passed out, compliments of the Chequamegon Dairy Association. Numerous coloring pages featuring tractors were returned for the drawing. Tractor coloring pictures will remain on display through June 15th. The drawing prizes were gift cards from Dollar General. Winnners are: Connor Payeur, $15; Jaxon Delegan, $10; and Hallie Jaeger, $5. Pictures of the tractors and many of the coloring pictures may also be seen on the Library’s Facebook page, Legion Memorial Library.

Come join in the Summer Reading fun! This year’s theme is, “A Universe of Stories”. A brochure of activities was sent home with Pre-K-5th Grade Mellen students. More brochures are available at the library. A calendar of events with descriptions may also be found on the library’s website, www.legionmemoriallibrary.org. Medals will be award to those students earning 50 reading points. For those initial 50 reading points and each additional 50 points earned, your name will be added to a drawing for prizes to be awarded at our “Book Lovers Day” party on August 9th.

During library open hours (Monday-Thursday, 10 AM-6 PM and Friday & Saturday, 9 AM – Noon) kids are invited to stop in and complete a Drop-In activity. Sue’s “What Is It?” challenge is on again. You may also take time to add a sticker to the “Stick Together” collage and let the guessing begin as to what it will be when completed.

Weekly programs will be offered on Thursday evenings. This week we’ll be creating a watercolor Northern Lights themed painting at 6 PM. At 7 PM I’ll start the movie, “Big Miracle”. This movie is about a family of whales trapped in Northern Alaska by rapidly forming ice. An international group of people band together to save them. You are welcome to bring your own comfortable camp chair, beverage, & snacks. The library will provide popcorn.

In July, STEAM activities will take place with Laura on Tuesday mornings 10 AM – Noon. The Friends of the Library’s Frog Jump is scheduled for Gilman Park on July 3rd at 6:30 PM and Bellringer Run is on for the 4th. Sign-up online at www.mellenbellringer.org or pick up a paper copy from the library. I’ll also email you a registration form if needed. Let me know at [email protected]. Deadline for t-shirt is June 24th.

The Friends of the Library will meet on Thursday, June 6th at 5 PM to go over Bellringer Run plans. We’re looking for volunteers to help out. Stop by or call the library, if you are willing to help.
