July 31 – Destination Book Club

Destination Book Club enjoyed an “out of this world’ discussion at Copper Falls State Park this past Friday. “The Martian” by Andy Weir and the “Universe In the Park” presentation by UW-Madison’s Astronomy Dept. made an interesting blend of fiction and non-fiction. One adventurous book club member would be interested in space travel, the rest of us will stick to reading about it. The final meeting of our Summer Reading Destination Book Club will take place on Monday, August 19th at 6 PM in Ashland at Kreher Park. We’ll be discussing, “Long-Shining Waters” by Danielle Sosin. If you’d like to join us, let us know at the library and we can borrow a copy of Sosin’s book for you to read.

Summer Reading will wrap-up next week with our final STEAM Tuesday, 10-Noon. A celebration will take place on Friday, August 9th, 10-Noon for all our Summer Reading participants. This will include the drawing for the Friends of the Library’s cash prizes. Please let us know if you plan to attend stop by, call (715-274-8331), or email ([email protected]) the library. Children in 5th Grade and under have earned 3068 reading points and of 67 participants 25 have earned their reading medals. Some kids are oh so close . . . I hope they do it. Young people in 6th-12th Grades have 1,021 reading points with 16 participants and hold at half having earned 50 points. The adults are having a great year! The have 3,179 reading points with 42 participants and 28 have earned 50 reading points or more.
