Friends of the Library Membership Drive

FOWL Hen Reading to Chicks
September is the month of our Friends of the Library membership drive. The Friends group for our Mellen Library was established on December 8, 1976. The Friends are also known as FOWL originally “Friends of Wisconsin Libraries” now “Friends of Our Wonderful Library”. FOWL supports the Library’s vision, “To honor, enrich, and inspire”. They remember to honor the initiative of the WWI veterans in starting a community public library; the work of library staff past and present; and the time and talents of our many volunteers past and present. They have enriched our library with new books each year, new flooring (2024), “The Friends Place” patio addition (2021-2022), and the storage addition (2013). The Friends hope to inspire through author visits, guest speakers, educational presentations, movie nights, summer reading, craft & hobby demonstrations, and children’s reading incentives. The Friends meet once a month. Usually the first Thursday of the month at 5pm. Membership costs $10 per year for an individual or $100 per person for a Lifelong membership. Forms are available from the library. Come be a Friend to your local library.
Thank you to our FOWL Officers: Kay Reader, President; Ruth Brennan, Vice President; Marcy Henri, Secretary; and Cheryl Hamm, Treasurer. Your time and dedication to the library are appreciated.

The library will be hosting a movie night on Thursday, September 18th at 7pm. We’ll be showing “Karate Kid: Legends”. The library will provide popcorn, but you are welcome to bring your own favorite movie snacks and beverage. Some also prefer sitting in their comfy camp chairs for movies. You are welcome to do so.
