FOWL Membership Drive
The Friends of the Library met last week and are kicking off their Membership Drive. All Lifelong members and any person renewing membership or becoming a new member will be entered in a drawing for a cozy warm blue polar fleece blanket made by Sally Sarnstrom and donated in memory of her mother, Joan Schultz. Joan was one of our Founding Friends of the Library members and dedicated to our community’s library. The blanket was originally donated for our Fall Quilt Raffle, but is being repurposed to draw new members to our organization. The Friends projects in the year ahead include new flooring for the library, a door with a window for The Friends Place outdoor patio, and offering programming opportunities. The Friends are also looking for volunteers to care for the library’s landscaping and flowers. If you’re interested in becoming a Friend of the Library, you may pickup a membership form at the library or request one be emailed to you. A form is also available from our website, https://www.legionmemoriallibrary.org/ you may print and mail in.
The Morning Book Club will meet next Tuesday, October 17th at 9am. They will discuss “The Book of Lost Friends” by Lisa Wingate. New members are welcome. Let us know of your interest by calling the library 715-274-8331 or stop by the library. We order books through interlibrary loan so there is no need to purchase. Our membership in the Northern Waters Library System allows us to borrow books from our 30 member libraries and beyond.
Please note that the Acrylic Painting group has changed their date to Thursday, October 26th at 6pm. We will be painting along with Cinnamon Cooney, The Art Sherpa to create her “Autumn Pumpkin”. Register in advance to hold your place as our space is limited. I’m encouraging participants to dress up for fun, with a recommendation to give a complimentary nod to The Art Sherpa’s style. Although some have mentioned a Bob Ross look alike night might be fun. But you do you and come paint with us.
Our Friends of the Library Book Sale is getting a bump in ‘new’ items due to our Fall shelf weeding project. Items include books on audio CD, DVDs, as well as print books both fiction and non-fiction. Come check it out. It’s fill a bag for $1. The funds collected go to the Friends of the Library.
The October Take & Make project is a little bat. Come pick one up (or more if needed) and a book or two, or three, or more to share with a child or children in your life. Bat book recommendations are on display with the project. “Bats at the Library” by Brian Lies, anyone? Check it out at the library.
Hope to see you soon!
