August 21 – Friends Quilt
The Friends of the Library’s Quilt for their Fall Raffle is now on display at the Library. The quilt was made by Judy Gibson and the design is stacks of books. Judy donated the quilt to the Friends of the Ashland Library for a raffle and her friend, Elizabeth Webster won the quilt. Well, being an amazing quilter, as well as an awesome friend to her friends (and libraries), Judy had already made and gifted a similar quilt to Elizabeth. So Elizabeth (awesome friend that she is), decided to carry on the idea her friend Judy had, and donated the quilt to the Friends of the Mellen Library for their Quilt Raffle. Head on down to the library and check out this year’s quilt, a fitting design with a story about friends. Raffle tickets are $1 each. The raffle will be held on Saturday, September 28th.
1000 Books Before Kindergarten is a program for children from birth through the start of Kindergarten. What child doesn’t love a bedtime story? By the time your 5-year-old is ready to start Kindergarten, you’ll have more than 1000 books read with only one bedtime story a night. But who can stop at just one? You can start a lifelong love of learning and make precious memories as you read together. Stop by the library to register your child and receive a sheet to track the reading of 100 books. It can be library books, books from home, the babysitters, or grandma’s house. Once 100 books have been read or that special ‘one’ book read 100 times, return the sheet to the library. Your child will receive a small incentive prize and you will receive another sheet to record the next 100 books. Once 1000 books have been read, we have a special t-shirt for your child and many happy memories of reading together.
Library School Storytime is a program offered at the library for 3-year-olds to attend with an adult caregiver. Older or younger children are welcome to attend, but the story and activities are planned for 3s. If you’re interested in Library School Storytime, contact the library (715-274-8331). If there is enough interest, it will begin in October.
Hope to see you soon at the library.
