Asahi Nordic Exercise at the Mellen Senior Center & Library
A lovely night of friends joining in song at The Friends Place was held last week. Rich Warren and The Mellen Community Peace Choir led the way with Rich’s guitar accompaniment. We sang many old favorites and one and all joined in the singing. We hope this will be the first of many more enjoyable sing-alongs at The Friends Place. Thank you so very much to The Mellen Community Peace Choir and Rich Warren for sharing your time and talents with us.
Asahi Nordic Exercise will begin on Wednesday, September 25 at 4pm. We will meet weekly through November. Join us for these gentle stretching, strengthening, and breathing exercises with our instructor, Naomi Kauppi, These exercises are done standing but may be altered for completion in a chair. So there’s no need to bring a mat or worry about getting up and down from the ground. A freewill donation of $8 per session for the instructor’s time and expertise is appreciated. Come and give it a try to see if it would be a good fit for you.
Join us for movie night at the Library on Wednesday, September 25 at 6pm. We’ll be showing Horizon, An American Saga, Chapter 1. It stars Kevin Costner and is 3 hours long. It is a Western set in the time just before, during, and after the Civil War. Bring your own comfortable camp chairs for the night. You are also welcome to bring your own favorite beverage and movie snacks. The library will have popcorn.
The library hosted an acrylic paint night last week. We painted along with Angela Anderson to create, ‘Autumn Landscape with Hale Bales’. You may see our work on the Library’s website, https://www. legionmemoriallibrary.org/ and Facebook page, Legion Memorial Library. Our next paint night will be October 25 at 6pm. We will paint along with The Art Sherpa and create our own works of her tutorial, ‘Fluffy Squirrel’.
There’s a few more days left to get your library card and be entered in a drawing to win a $50 Visa gift card. If you already have a library card, you may fill out a paper form available at the library and let us know the role the library plays in your life.
Thank you to Betty White for hosting and Kay Reader for promoting the Friends Outdoor Book Sale this past Friday. Books are on sale at the library. Fill a bag for $1.
Thank you to The Mellen City Crew, Tana Turonie, and Mike Thewis for your work on our landscaping needs. Overgrown bushes have been removed and others have been trimmed back. Things are looking good!
Thank you to our container garden watering crew: Betty White, Kay Reader, and Marcy Henri! Our flowers have never looked better. The log container was decorated for us by Kathy Kern and given to us for the summer to enjoy. Thank you for thinking of us and helping our Friends keep their ‘Place’ beautiful. The mums were recently donated in memory of Fred & Rose Laitinen and their son, Rob.
Stop by the library and enjoy viewing the Penokee Mountains from The Friends Place as the first colors of fall quilt the range.
