Asahi Continues Through May

Asahi Nordic Exercise classes continue on Wednesday afternoons at 4pm through the month of May.  We are super excited about sharing this practice with everyone on July 5 at Gilman Park.  The ideal place to perform these movements is outdoors.  We will be led by Margaret Vainio from Finland for this Finnish Mind – Body Health Practice.  We first met Margaret last September for an Asahi Nordic demonstration class at the library.  One of the attendees became a certified instructor and has been leading classes at the library/senior center since January.  We can’t wait to share what we’ve learned.  Please join us on Wednesday afternoons and mark your calendars for the July 5, 4pm at Gilman Park event.

The Frog Jump has been scheduled for July 5 at 5pm at Gilman Park.

The Friends of the Library will meet Thursday, May 9th at 5pm.

The Bellringer is the Friends of the Library’s biggest fundraiser of the year due in large part because of our many wonderful sponsors.  Please frequent and thank these businesses and library supporters.  The following businesses and families sponsoring the 2024 Bellringer so far are:  Ashland County Housing Authority, Bayfield Electric Cooperative, Camp Eagle Ridge, Cans for Kids, Deb Delegan & Family, Derek Heglund Construction, Dusty’s Saloon, Kay & Ken Reader Family, Kretzschmar Holsteins, Inc., Lakeview Dental, Mellen Area Chamber of Commerce, Mellen Lions Club, Mellen Home & School Association, Mountain Funeral Home, North Country Lumber Co., Inc, Northern Highlights, Northern Lights Electrical, Northern State Bank, O’Dovero & Flesia Farm & Meat Market, Sam & Carolyn Kochel Family, Tamarack Health Ashland Medical Center, Thewis Busing, Tom Lazorik Electric, Town of Ashland, Tri-M Sanitary/Recycling, Wholly Threads Thrift Shop.  There is still time to sponsor the race.  The cost is $100.  Your business name or family name will appear on the back of the official Bellringer T-shirt.

Our library website, Legion Memorial Library, has the link to register for the Bellringer and a page dedicated to the race.  Paper registration forms may be picked up from the library or emailed to you.  Please call 715-274-8331, if you have questions.  There are a few of the more recent race winners pictured on the library website’s Bellringer page.  I hope to add more in the future.   The website has an events calendar.  There is a countdown to the race ‘Bellringer in __ Days’.  If you hover over or click on that day, a motivational quote will appear.  The ‘Mellen Bellringer’ is also on Facebook.  Check out these sites and let us know what you think.

Summer Reading is just around the corner!  This year’s theme is ‘Adventure Begins at Your Library’.  I’m looking for some help in collecting plastic covers from water bottles, soda pop, milk jugs, etc.  Please save them and bring them to the library.  There’s a white collection tub to drop them off in.  They will be used in creating an art piece this summer. Thank you for  your help
