Our five-week series of the “Unearth a Story” Summer Reading programming is now complete. But the Summer Reading Challenge continues through August 31st. The following young people have earned a Summer Reading medal with at least 50 reading points: Axel Vernoski, Dax Vernoski, Liam Denny, Rosa Denny, Darwin Espinoza-Gonzalez, Everett Fisher, Tessa Fisher, Hunter Schutte, Caleb Denny, Hazel Schroeder, Peyton Schutte, and Skyler Thewis. Congratulations to these readers for attaining their goal! All are continuing to read and racking up those reading points to stay ahead of the Adult Reading Team.
Each week we will continue to set out a Summer Reading activity for kids to stop by and complete at the library or pick up and take home. The craft of the month is a colorful bird created with a paper plate and a rainbow of paper feathers to attach. We have also added a “Craft & Game” house in The Friends Place. Those of you who enjoy playing cards or a simple craft can enjoy these activities in our beautiful outdoor space. The deer have been munching on some of our plants, but we’ve replaced them as we are able. Share your favorite flowers with us that the deer do not like for a meal.
Our Friend, Betty White, checks on and stocks our Little Free Library in Gilman Park and then stops by The Friends Place to water our planters. The Lions Club covers the weekend watering. We are very thankful for our volunteers who keep our space looking great! Over the past few months, we have been receiving many compliments on our outdoor space. Visitors and locals enjoy checking out the kaleidoscope. It’s amazing what adding the flags did to change the look as you spin the bowl base of the kaleidoscope. If you haven’t or can’t stop by our Friend, Marcy Henri, created a Facebook page where you can check it out: “The Friends Place Kaleidoscope”. Our outdoor space has outlets available to charge your phones. Tables and for adults and kids. Umbrellas for shade and a beautiful view of the Penokee Mountain Range. Stop by for a visit with a friend. First grab a refreshment from Little Town Coffee, Co., Northland Foods, Cenex, or Copper Ridge and then enjoy it at The Friends Place.
The Friends of the Library also have a used book sale available in the lobby. A donation of $1 per bag of books or 25 cents per book is suggested. Magazines are free.
