Thank you, Mellen Chamber of Commerce!
Thank you to the Mellen Area Chamber of Commerce for the nice picture and article shared in last week’s Mellen Weekly. It is only through the support of our community that we are able to offer a gathering space. A space to read, learn, and grow as we support our vision: To honor, enrich, and inspire.
March 12 will mark the 99th Birthday of Legion Memorial Library and the Friends of the Library have begun planning the year ahead as we countdown to the Library’s Centennial. One of those plans includes making a ‘Bookshelf’ quilt. In addition, you can help us by sharing stories and/or pictures of the library’s history. Do you remember the Bookmobile? What about the formation of the Friends group? Or when the library held plays on the museum stage. Or maybe you could share a story or picture from Library School, Summer Reading, or when Oprah’s people came to town. Share them by emailing me at: [email protected]. I will be compiling them for a scrapbook, Facebook and website posts, as well as the Mellen Weekly Record.
Storytime will begin on Thursday, February 5th at 9am and run for 8 weeks. Please join us in reading, singing, crafting, and playing around the theme of “Snow” on the 5th. Here’s a reading tip for parents of young children, when reading to your child, involve them in the story by pointing to a picture and asking them, “What’s this?” Then talk about the picture. Help us get the word out about Storytime by telling your family, friends, & neighbors.
Asahi Nordic Exercise will be offered through the month of February on Wednesday at 4pm. Ashai is a mind-body health practice. This exercise is meant for all ages and abilities. It helps with balance & movement. It does not require a mat or extra equipment. Dress comfortably. Join us during the cold winter months to keep moving as we look forward to warmer weather.
Many readers around the north are enjoying the books we’ve selected for our book club this year. So much so, that I’m unable to get multiple copies of those titles to share with our book club members. That means monthly surprise titles. Books for February are “The Love of My Life” by Rosie Walsh on the 9th at 6pm and “Broken Country” by Clare Leslie Hall on the 18th at 10am. If you’ve read these books and would like to join the discussion, please do. If you’d like to join a book club let us know at the library and we’ll order a book through an interlibrary loan for you.
The Library Board will meet on Tuesday, January 27th at 5:05pm.
