Dystopian Novels for October Book Clubs
This month it works out that both book clubs will be meeting in the same week. Monday the 14th at 6pm we’ll be discussing “1984” by George Orwell and Wednesday the 16th at 9am we’ll be discussing “Fahrenheit 451” by Ray Bradbury. If you would like to join us, let us know at the library and we will reserve a book for you.
Students visiting the library are learning how to use shelf markers and the special addresses that each book calls home. They are also learning how to spot spine labels to find books they are looking for. Stop by with your youngsters and let them show you how to use a shelf marker to find a just right book to take home.
The Patch Program is still going. A new batch of patches to choose from with be arriving soon. Pick-up a tracking book mark or make your own list of 25 books that your child has read or that you have read with them. Then stop by the library and pick out a patch to add to your collection.
Roscoe is growing. Our outdoor rock snake is slowly expanding in front of the library. You may add a rock any time you wish. Let’s see if his tail can extend to The Friends Place by Halloween.
Book Review: Browsing the library shelves for an interesting ‘read’, I pulled out a book titled HOW TO READ A BOOK, which was a surprising title. On page one a surprising setting was The Visitors Room in a women’s prison arranged with 12 chairs and a few tables…to accommodate the Book Cub’s participating inmates. The inmates and the club leader’s lives intertwine and unfold along the human continuum, doing their best and sometimes their worst. On finishing the book, I returned to the very beginning pages and read the dedication I had initially skipped. Uh-hah!
