Spring Cleaning
“Out with the old and in with the new.” We are busy Spring Cleaning through a weeding process at the library. I’m doing a review of our shelves and checking our book collection for books that are not being borrowed or that are outdated. These will be withdrawn from our collection and added to the Friends of the Library’s Book Sale. I started with the large print collection and have moved on to the non-fiction. I’m hoping all weeded items will find a new home through the sale. It is recommended to fill a bag of our used books for $1 or you may make a donation in any amount to The Friends. There is also a large selection of DVDs and books on CD in the sale.
New Books when at the library and not checked out, are housed on the ends of our cases. Easy to locate and browse. Because of the lack of space for them to transition to the regular shelving, many ‘older’ books have been sneaking their way onto the New Books section. Rest assured that new books, ones that have been released in the past few months will still have their own space on the ends or our cases. Regular print on the left, large print on the right. Yes, this is a switch too, as it fits better now with where our large print starts. And please note, if you are looking for a recently released title and it is not on our shelf, ask the library staff member working at the desk to place a hold on that title for you. Or you may place a hold yourself using your library card and the online catalog. This is the fastest way to get that new book in your hands.
Come join us for Asahi. Asahi Nordic Exercise is a routine of gentle stretching, balance, and wellness exercises based on a program originating in Finland. No special equipment is needed, and you work at your own pace. This program is offered weekly at the Mellen Library & Senior Center Wednesday afternoons through the month of March at 4pm. The Friends of the Library have paid gas mileage for our instructor. A recommendation of $8 a session for the instructor’s time and expertise is suggested, but not required. You may call the library 715-274-8331 to register or drop in and check it out.
Wisconsin Tax forms are available in the lobby of the Mellen Library & Senior Center.
One more day left for a chance to win a $50 Visa gift card. February is Library Lovers’ Month. Our Northern Waters Library Network (NWLN) is encouraging library patrons to share why they love their library. You may share your ‘library love story’ on paper, love letter style or online here: https://forms.gle/uFNwJ1SdnW26LTv49 Those willing to share online will automatically be entered into a drawing to win a $50 Visa gift card. Those stopping by the library to fill out paper copies will receive a Hershey’s kiss and a chance to win a box of chocolates from Gabriele’s German Cookies and Chocolates. These stories will remind us why libraries are vital to our community. We hope to read your story and share it at the library.
A look ahead: March 12th is the library’s birthday. Make plans to stop by and enjoy the day with us at the library.
