Happy Thanksgiving!

Thank you one and all for your support of the library.  We appreciate your kind words and deeds each and every day of the year.

The library receives memorial gifts throughout the year with the recommendation to add to our collection. This year is no exception. The library purchased, “The Hidden World of Gnomes” by Lauren Soloy and “The Little Forest Keepers” by Mary Lundquist in memory of Joan Airoldi; “50 Pies, 50 States, An Immigrant’s Love Letter to the United States Through Pie” by Stacey Mei Yan Fong and “What’s In a Dumpling, Grandma?” by Linda Meeker in memory of Sau Grage; and “The Explorer’s Club” by Jeff Wilser and “The Lonely Planet Kids, The Maps Book” by Joanne Bourne in memory of Kaye Lee with gifts from Judy Goeckermann. We received a memorial gift in honor of what would have been Chuck Taggett’s 99th Birthday that happened to fall on “World Book Day” back in April from his daughter, Muffie Taggett.  The library purchased the following titles with this memorial gift, “American Ramble” by Neil King, Jr., “Moon Wisconsin” by Thomas Huhti, “Reading Makes You Feel Good” by Todd Parr, “My Name Is Barbra” by Barbra Streisand, and “The Winter Bird” by Kate Banks.

We are putting together craft kits in a box with a memorial gift from Ruth & Jim Brennan in memory of Joan Airoldi.  The following books will be place in each box along with materials to complete at least one of the books craft projects, “Cardboard Activity Lab” by Jemma Westing, “Everyday Magic for Kids” by Justin Flom, “Finger Knitting for Kids” by Eriko Teranishi, “Good Housekeeping, The Ultimate Kids Christmas Book” by Good Housekeeping Institute, “Mason Jar Crafts for Kids” by Linda Z. Braden, “Mending with Kids” by Nami Levy, “P.S. We Made This! by Erica Domesek, and “Paper and Tape Crafts” by Jennifer Perkins.  The Craft Kit boxes will be ready for check out over the school’s Winter Break in December.

The library will be closed on Thursday & Friday, November 23 & 24 for a Thanksgiving break but we will be open on Saturday, November 25, 9am-noon.

Decorating of the Friends Place will be on (Date & Time change from last week) Friday, December 1st at 9am.  We will need help with our gingerbread fence sitters and picture hanging canvas on the pavilion.  We’ll be adding a tree this year and will be inviting people to decorate a tree cookie to add as decoration.

Mr. & Mrs. Santa Claus have accepted the invitation of the Mellen Lions Club to visit our library.  They will be here Saturday, December 9, 1-3pm.  Come and visit with the Claus’s!  Bring your wish lists and camera for pictures.  Each child will be presented with a gift of a book and a chance to enter a drawing for a bike, courtesy of the Lions Club.

Sometime in December we will be getting our flooring replaced.  We’ll let you know asap because we’ll be shut down for a few days and you’ll want to stock up on your reading materials.  We’ll have a fresh new look for 2024 thanks to our Friends of the Library and help from the Mellen Lions Club.

Don’t forget about our Friends of the Library Book Sale.  We have many books, books on CD, and DVDs to choose from.  It’s ‘Fill a bag for $1’.  Because we have full shelves currently and are trying to prepare for new flooring, we are not accepting any donations at this time.  We thank you for thinking of us and will let you know when we have room for your donations once again.

The library Board of Trustees will meet on Monday, November 27th at 5:30pm.  The Policy Committee will meet at 4:30pm.
