Drawing Winner Announced

Dave Karlinsky is the winner of the National Library Week drawing.  He won a Digger blue blanket handmade by Sally Sarnstrom.  Thank you one and all for sharing this special week with us.

Summer Reading is just around the corner!  This year’s theme is ‘Adventure Begins at Your Library’.  I’m looking for some help in collecting plastic covers from water bottles, soda pop, milk jugs, etc.  Please save them and bring them to the library. They will be used in creating an art piece this summer.

The Annual Friends of the Mellen Library’s Bellringer Fun Run will be held on Thursday, July 4th at 8:30am.  Road construction will again be an issue for our race route.  So, we will be repeating the route from last year, an out and back, with the start and finish near the Town of Morse Hall.  Please note that this year there is only one event, the Two-Mile Race.  This will shorten the timeframe of our overall event and enable our volunteers and participants to volunteer and participate in other Mellen Hometown Fourth of July activities.

This continues to be our biggest fundraiser of the year due in large part because of our many wonderful sponsors.  Please frequent and thank these businesses and library supporters.  The following businesses and families sponsoring the 2024 Bellringer so far are:  Ashland County Housing Authority, Bayfield Electric Cooperative, Camp Eagle Ridge, Deb Delegan & Family, Derek Heglund Construction, Dusty’s Saloon, Kay & Ken Reader Family, Kretzschmar Holsteins, Inc., Lakeview Dental, Mellen Lions Club, Mellen Home & School Association, Mountain Funeral Home, North Country Lumber Co., Inc, Northern Highlights, Northern Lights Electrical, O’Dovero & Flesia Farm & Meat Market, Sam & Carolyn Kochel Family, Tamarack Health Ashland Medical Center, Thewis Busing, Tom Lazorik Electric, Town of Ashland, Cans for Kids, Tri-M Sanitary/Recycling.

Our library website, Legion Memorial Library, has the link to register for the Bellringer and a page dedicated to the race.  Paper registration forms may be picked up from the library or emailed to you.  Please call 715-274-8331, if you have questions.  There are a few of the more recent race winners pictured on the library website’s Bellringer page.  I hope to add more in the future.   The website has an events calendar.  There is a countdown to the race ‘Bellringer in __ Days’.  If you hover over or click on that day, a motivational quote will appear.  The ‘Mellen Bellringer’ is also on Facebook.  Check out these sites and let us know what you think.

There’s a new bee craft for this month’s Take & Make.  Stop by and pick-up a craft & books to share with the children in your life.

The Library Board of Trustees will meet on Monday, April 29 at 5:30pm.  The Policy Committee will meet at 4:30pm prior to the regular monthly meeting of the Board.
