A Friends Place 9/28/2022
Thank you one and all who took time on Saturday to join us in our Ribbon Cutting Ceremony with the Mellen Chamber of Commerce and the Mellen Peace Choir. The Library’s outdoor space was dedicated as “A Friends Place”. It includes a plaque that reads “‘If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need.’ Cicero – And goes on to say, “This space is dedicated to our friends near and far. Created with a loving gift in memory of Shirley Van Dyke, a generous grant from Enbridge, and numerous donations of time and talents by our dear friends. Dedicated September 24, 2022.” This was a very special day in the making and it was made possible by the Friends of Our Wonderful Library, aka FOWL.
The Friends Quilt Raffle was held at noon with Jack Marita winning the quilt. 43 other prizes were also won. Prizes were donated by our many friends. We’ll publish a list of donors and winners asap. Tickets sales were good due in part to a couple who purchased tickets and passed them out as a gesture of kindness and thoughtfulness to people they met. How awesome is that?
Library School Storytime will begin its first of three 8-week sessions next week on Thursday, October 6 at 9 am. This is a program planned for three year olds to attend with an adult caregiver. Activities will include listening to a book being read, learning rhymes, singing, and making a craft. It’s a great opportunity for parents and grandparents to network and help the little ones in their lives build friendships and literacy skills. And if Storytime just doesn’t fit your schedule, please think about signing up for 1000 books before Kindergarten. You may find out more about either of these programs by stopping by the library during our open hours, Monday-Thursday 10 am-6pm and Friday & Saturday 9 am-Noon. Or call us at 715-274-8331.
Thank you for supporting FOWL and their work and fundraising efforts on behalf of the Library.
